MING WONG: Intergalactic Speed Dating

From the Mothership comes the Mamasan of the Milky Way, Ming Wong. His Intergalactic Speed Dating includes a crash course on effective intergalactic communications – with tips on how to pull an alien – followed by an intergalactic speed-dating session with afro-futuristic tunes.

ELOÏSE CALANDRE: Performance

Eloïse Calandre’s performance approaches language as a visceral experience, focusing on the aural qualities of the spoken voice. Mixing languages, the voice is transformed into a series of sounds, leaving the listener with only the voice and its rhythmic flow.

To celebrate the end of the summer’s activities and launch The Mothership Collective art installation, the South London Gallery hosts an evening filled with events, including a reading by Anthony Joseph, a contemporary street dance performance by Urban Classicism, and music performances devised by Barby Asante and Blacktronica. Everyone is welcome.

Create your own vision of Utopia. Using an array of visual material from the 19th and early 20th centuries, participants will look at how political non-conformists have traditionally used crackpot religion and Utopian fantasies in order to critique the establishment. You will contribute your own utopian vision to the Mothership in the form of printed posters and pamphlets.

DAVID BLANDY: The Collective Unconscious

HARUN MORRISON & HELEN WALKER: Becoming the Alien

Day 1: Using character devising techniques, inter-group discussion and the engagement of strangers you will develop an 'alien' identity. The development of this alien identity will also explore 'utopian' behaviour in performance. Day 2: As part of an ensemble of 'aliens' we will explore South London through new eyes with the long term aim of returning to the Mothership (SLG) to share our findings.

JULIAN ROBERTS: Negative Space Cutting

Dress for less. Fashion designer Julian Roberts will demonstrate his subtraction method of pattern cutting, focussing on the negative spaces of the design, after which you have a chance to experiment cutting your own garments.

MARTINO GAMPER: Modularism

Modular represented the future in the 60s and 70s. Architecture, design, fashion and art were all heavily influenced by the dream of constructing a world from a few single components. Introduce modularity to the Mothership by making furniture, objects and spaces from a selection of self-made modular elements with designer Martino Gamper.

GAYLE CHONG KWAN: Adonia

Join the Festival of Adonia to share your unfulfilled desires through discussion, herbs, spices and beds of lettuce. Bring a sleeping bag, and music and food to share. This ladies-only all-nighter is based on an ancient Greek festival in which women would spend the night on rooftops around the city. The residue will be left on the Mothership for others to contemplate.

CHARLIE DARK: Grime Tunes

Over 18s are invited to join performance artist, poet, lyricist and author Jamika Ajalon in a creative writing workshop exploring the place of the black female subject as the original alien and the original mother, with references to film, television, and literature. Bring an item, song, image or piece of writing that gives you a feeling of home. The discussion will be recorded and broadcast from the Mothership.
