Overview
SLG and Peckham Space again join forces to explore recent and new commissions with artists working with residents in SE15 and SE5. Through artist talks, screenings and discussions, delegates can gain a unique insight into the work of Febrik, Lottie Child and David Cotterrell which addresses themes of architecture and intervention in the public realm. Join us for what promises to be an interesting insight into socially engaged practices and new approaches to commissioning.
Febrik
The Lebanon-based artist/architectural group Febrik have been in residence working with children on Sceaux Gardens estate for the last six months to realise a new play research centre. Here they discuss their work, exploring ideas of the familiar and unfamiliar, enabling children to generate ‘curious objects’ as a means of re-imagining the estate and its playful possibilities.
David Cotterrell
London-based artist David Cotterrell previews his new film Slipstream made with residents from North Peckham estate. The film maps social, geographical and personal histories of north Peckham through an investigation of the area’s changing landscape.
Lottie Child
Artist group Lottie Child shows a film of her practice Street Training which focuses on behaviour in public places. Made in collaboration with young people, it explores the differences between creative and anti-social behavior through a series of training courses for professionals who make decisions about young people’s lives, including the local Safer Neighbourhood Police.
All participants receive complimentary publications, refreshments and a packed lunch.
This event takes place at the SLG and Peckham Space. Booking is essential on 020 7703 6120.
