The Droste Effect, 1998, is a 360 degree panorama of Gavin Turk’s SLG solo exhibition, The Stuff Show, 1998, during the opening evening, for which the artist wrapped all 18 works in linen dustsheets in the manner of conceptual artist Christo. This work itself appears wrapped up within the image, creating a kaleidoscope of illusions. Turk challenges the sovereignty of the art object and the ways in which to confer value, status and recognition.
