Juan Cruz
Descriptions of works in the collection of the South London Gallery, 1997
Book
30.5 x 21.7 cm
GA1998

This work was commissioned as part of the group exhibition Summer Collection '97, for which ten artists were invited to create new works in response to the SLG permanent collection. For this work, Juan Cruz catalogued the paintings and prints, describing in detail the content of the works, as if they were real scenes. The work continues the artist’s ongoing engagement with the process of translation, exploring scene-setting as a basis for experience and prompting potential narratives in the mind of the reader. The work was conceived to remain in the collection, on a shelf among the other catalogues on which it is modelled.

Commissioned by the SLG as part of the exhibition Summer Collection, '97, curated by students on the MA Fine Arts Administration and Curatorship course at Goldsmiths College.
