Noise Summit: Young People and Sound Symposium

Sun 8 Sep 2013, 1.30-5.30pm, £5/£3 conc/Free Under 18s, Clore Studio

Overview

This symposium was an experimental forum exploring children and young people’s heard actions in public space and how noise-making in the urban environment defines social or anti-social behaviour.

The symposium featured a re-enactment of Tom White's Public Address, a multi-speaker sound installation of children's recordings on Southampton Way estate, an introduction to Barby Asante’s ongoing exploration of young people’s right to be both seen and heard in public and a temporary Local FM broadcast of material created by the Art Assassins (The SLG’s Young People’s Forum) in collaboration with sound artists' Alexander Wilson and Rosie Gibson for 24-Hour Resonance FM Takeover.

The discussion was chaired by Mark Peter Wright, editor of Ear Room.
