An edition of 18 martini pitcher stirrers, made of mouth-blown glass, door keys and keyrings.

Each edition is uniquely embellished by the artist and will come with a signed and numbered certificate. Last 3 remaining are pictured.

Albert Goldman's Martini Pitcher Stirrer is an edition that stems from Richard Healy’s larger exploration of the work of the modernist architect Horace Gifford. His architecture serves Healy as a footprint and guide for a wider investigation into ideas around function, gay cruising and design. Inspired by the bold and confident choices by Gifford for his buildings on Fire Island, structures that include conversation pits, communal outdoor showers and make-out lofts, and that reflect a golden period in the history of Fire Island and the spirit of the pre-AIDS, post-Stonewall queer lifestyle, Healy produced a selection of hand-blown Martini pitchers for the exhibition Last Seen Entering the Biltmore at the South London Gallery in 2014.

Albert Goldman's Martini Pitcher Stirrer edition escorts the Martini pitchers and both function as fictional props in the stages that Gifford's architecture suggests, invoking a quote by Gifford’s contemporary Albert Goldman stating:  "Cruising along at sunset with a glass in one hand and a modest pitcher of Martini in the other, you find yourself far more socially acceptable than you ever realised." 

BIOGRAPHY

Richard Healy (b. 1980) is a graduate of the Royal College of Art, who lives and works in London. His work encompasses a number of media including video, sculpture, installation and print. Selected exhibitions include: I love you Me either, Project Native Informant, London (2014); Prone Positions, Rowing, London (2013); Vetiver, Marian Cramer Projects, Amsterdam (2012); But Mr Architect!, Furnished Space, London (2012); Dumb, The Brno House of Art, Brno (2012); Strategies for Building, Outpost, Norwich (2011); Young British Art, Limoncello. The South London Gallery Shop sells books & magazines, gifts, cards, stationery and artist limited editions. The Shop opening hours are:

  • Tuesdays 11am-6pm
  • Wednesdays 11am-9pm
  • Thursdays 11am-6pm
  • Fridays 11am-6pm*
  • Saturdays & Sundays 10am-6pm

*On the last Friday of every month, the Shop is open until 9pm.

Your order will normally be dispatched within 3-4 working days, at which point you will be sent a dispatch email from us. How long your order takes to arrive will vary depending on the items you have purchased and their most appropriate shipping method.  For artist editions please see question 8. The approximate time frames are as follows:

·         UK - 2-5 days

·         EU - 5-10 days

·         US - 5-10 days

·         Rest of the world - 14-21 days
