This award winning feature film has been chosen by the South by South artist-in-residence, Emeka Ogboh.
Renowned film-maker Abderrahmane Sissako depicts a trial taking place in Bamako, the capital of Mali. During the trial, two sides argue whether the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, or perhaps corruption, are guilty of the current financial state of many poverty-stricken African countries.
Young Rwandan filmmaker, Pascale Kasirabo, also presents his short film, A Lifeless Life, and takes part in a Q&A about his work.
The South by South film programme showcases work made by artists living and working in Africa every third Friday of the month and is curated in partnership with Joseph Adesunloye in association with Africa 2.0 and the Royal African Society.
The film screenings are part of the wider South by South programme, which also includes an annual residency and education project, and celebrates the work of artists and film-makers from the global south in relationship to the local context of the SLG in South London.
