Who's In? An Estate-Wide Football Game

Overview

Following two weeks of work themed around competition, location, site and boundaries with artist Anthony Schrag and young people from neighbouring housing estates, local residents from Sceaux Gardens and Southampton Way are invited to take part in an inter-estate football game. 

No booking necessary. 

Artist Biography
Anthony Schrag
was born in Zimbabwe and grew up in the Middle East, the UK and Canada. Originally, he obtained a degree in Creative Writing in Canada, where his first poetry book was published, but forwent the solitary writer’s life for an interdisciplinary artist’s fare and completed his MFA in Glasgow in 2005. He is currently based somewhere in Scotland.

Working site specifically, he has had residencies/exhibited/performed in Hungary, Canada, USA, Mexico, China, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Germany, and Iceland as well as across the UK. He was the recipient of the 2011 Standpoint Futures: Public residency award, as well as a Henry Moore Artist Fellowship for a project in Holland. His 2009 residency with the Gallery of Modern Art (Glasgow) as part of the shOUT: Human Rights and Contemporary Art caused international media coverage (and death threats!), and he has been the recipient of numerous awards including The Hope Scot Trust, Creative Scotland, British Arts Council and the Dewar Arts Award.

He is currently a commissioned artist for the 2012 Edinburgh International Arts Festival. Later this year, Anthony will start a fellowship PhD at Newcastle University exploring conflict, policy and socially engaged practices.
