Come and join a growing community of teachers exploring how anti-racism can be addressed through creative practice. Facilitated by artist Jessica Ashman, this two-part CPD workshop is for primary and secondary teachers across all subjects. Includes hands-on activities and discussion inspired by the Lagos, Peckham, Repeat exhibition.
The workshops offer:
- Tour of the SLG’s latest exhibition, Lagos, Peckham, Repeat: Pilgrimage to the Lakes.
- An opportunity to reflect on your practice, share experiences and learn from others in a relaxed and supportive environment.
- Build confidence to explore anti-racism in your schemes of work through tools and creative practices.
- Join the Making Sense peer learning network, a growing community of educators supporting each other to activate change.
This event is free but advance booking is required. Fill in our online form to secure your place.
Priority will be given to teachers working in Southwark, Lambeth and Lewisham.

About Jessica Ashman
Jessica Ashman is a multidisciplinary artist working in animation moving image, painting, installation, music and performance. Ashman’s work aims to explore gender, identity and race, drawing on the wider stories of the Black British diaspora communities she was raised in. Black radical theory and science fiction are also a heavy influence on Ashman’s practice, especially when it comes to narrative world building. As an arts educator, Ashman has been teaching her practice for over 10 years, creating workshops and resources that explore cultural identity, belonging and histories of oppression. Her arts education practice has seen her work with such institutions as Tate (Workshop Artist in Residence 2019 – 2020), ICA, Camden Arts Centre and Wellcome Trust. She is also an associate lecturer in Animation at Goldsmiths.
About Making Sense
Making Sense brings young people, educators and researchers together to explore themes of inclusion and anti-racism, through youth-led creative collectives, teacher training, conversation and resources.
The programme works in schools to offer creative learning opportunities for young people and development opportunities for teachers. These learnings are shared online through an evolving, interactive and informative digital platform.
