FAMILY SPACE WITH Emma Ogawa Todd: October 2025
Sat 25 Oct 2025, 11am-1pm

An adult and child paint together sitting on a blue matt on the floor.

Free, save time by registering in advance

This free creative workshop is inspiredby Yto Barrada’s exploration of colour and use of natural dyes. Artist Emma Ogawa Todd invites families to create a large-scale colour wheel parachute and make their own handmade paper.

In this workshop we will be using natural dyes made from fruits and vegetables. Participants are encouraged to wear old clothes, that they don’t mind getting a little messy.

Suitable for children aged 5–12 years with their parents and carers.

ABOUT FAMILY SPACE

Family Space is a programme of free workshops that take place on the last Saturday of the month. Sessions are self-directed and designed for families with children aged 5-12 years old. The space is supported by the SLG’s Art and Play team.

Sign up to our Family Space register ahead of the session to save time (adults too!)

ABOUT EMMA OGAWA TODD

Emma Ogawa Todd explores cultural intersections and indigenous beliefs of Shintoist cosmology. Tracing family histories and archives, she integrates cross-cultural symbolism of her mixed Japanese-English heritage into her work. She uses found and natural materials, influenced by the belief in kami (spirits in all things) to explore ways of coexisting with the environment. These animist principals guide her interest in cyclical relationships with the land, which she channels through processes like foraging, upcycling, natural dyeing, carving, weaving, and stitching.
