Join us for a day of inspiring, honest and practical professional development designed for teachers looking to create more inclusive and equitable learning environments.

Taking place in February half-term, Creating an Inclusive Classroom explores how we can re-examine our teaching practices to better support the intersectional identities and learning needs of students.

Educator and writer Joy Mbakwe, artist and teacher Dianne Minnicucci and SLG Teacher-in-residence Niall Deegan will share strategies, resources and examples from their own teaching and creative practices.

Since 2022, the South London Gallery has been working closely with educators to build confidence in anti-racist and decolonial teaching practices. Our annual study day offers teachers space to reflect, learn, and connect with peers who are committed to change. This day is designed to be thought-provoking and to create an environment for reflection and peer collaboration, so that participants leave feeling energised and equipped.

What we’ll explore:

  • What does an inclusive classroom look and feel like?
  • How can teachers embed anti-racist and inclusive practice every day?
  • What might it look like to reimagine classroom hierarchies and create more equitable learning spaces?
  • How can teachers advocate for change within their school?

Who can attend?

  • Teachers working across all levels and subject areas
  • Teaching assistants, support staff and trainee teachers
  • Artists working in school contexts

Why attend?

  • Hear inspiring presentations from other teachers and practitioners
  • Connect with peers and take away strategies, actions and ideas to build into your practice
  • Be part of a growing community committed to anti-racism and inclusion in education

Further information

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

We have two childcare bursaries available for parents or carers. These will be paid directly to successful applicants to help cover childcare costs to help remove childcare barriers to attendance.
