The Conch is an event where artists share new work that is still in development. After each presentation, the audience is invited to respond by sharing their thoughts, questions and reflections.
This edition of The Conch brings together artists who explore domestic architectures not simply as backdrops, but as sites of labour and performance that can take on a life of their own.
Georgina Hill
The performance explores the overlooked history of cottage industries in Britain, where families – often women – produced goods by hand from their homes alongside the growth of industrial manufacturing. Drawing on family histories, personal records and fragmented archives, the work constructs a speculative narrative of domestic labour and the lives behind it.
Alia Hamaoui
Using behind the scenes footage taken from the making of the whodunit crime film 8 Femmes, Alia re-works the script, footage and sound to continue her enquiry into the potential of space as the driver of narrative action. Making architecture and objects the subject of this performance, Alia folds different temporalities through the use of rehearsal material and layered framing.
Beatrice Vorster
BOO! is a performance which emerges from Unfinished Business, an upcoming short film. Made in collaboration with Yasmin Vardi, the work deconstructs the ghost-movie genre. Set in a for-sale property, equipped with smart home features, the house seeks its revenge in poltergeist fashion. The performance expands the parameters of the film and remixes it – accompanied by a sound sculpture, a reel-to-reel tape machine, and foley ripped from movies.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Georgina Hill
is an interdisciplinary artist with a background in academic research. Her practice operates between conceptual and craft traditions, bringing together materials, images, and processes to form an ecosystem of references. Through these constructed environments, Hill investigates social and economic infrastructures, often drawing on histories of labour and their relationship to the moving image, as well as her own family history of making and production.
Recent exhibitions include 17 metres, 46 seconds, 800 frames, Schleuse (Vienna, 2026), 1 / X, high speed splash, fluent (Santander, 2026) and Der Paravent ist ein Objekt des Dazwischen, Kunstverein Siegen (Siegen, 2026).
Beatrice Vorster
examines the mechanics of cinematic feeling through recording and reproducing. She has been collaborating with Yasmin Vardi since 2022, making artist films which investigate the grammar of cinema -particularly of the horror genre – combining remade cliches with structural approaches to filmmaking. They are interested in cinema as a political technology whose conventions shape perceptions, configure social anxieties and reproduce structures of power.
Beatrice and Yasmin participated in XXIX CSAV Fondazione Ratti, Art Lab ‘Low Realisms’ with Ed Atkins in Como, Summer 2025. Their work has been shown at Calcio, Cafe OTO, greengrassi, Plicnik Space Initiative, Iklectik, Biblioteka and Camden Arts Centre in London; TICK TACK in Antwerp, LA SIRA in Paris, and Studio Ghost in Tokyo.
Alia Hamaoui
is a visual artist working and living in London. Hamaoui’s practice collides systems of control and material seductions to explore the performance of objects in service of cultural narration. Drawing on the mechanics of display associated with archaeology, vernacular urban architecture and set design, Hamaoui reconfigures these frameworks through sculpture, installation, moving image and performance to explore how concepts of place are stabilised in their own image. Techniques of concealment and visibility are used to guide bodies and are redeployed to reveal how space operates as a repository of contingent and contested experience.
