In 2025, the South London Gallery launched a collaboration with Museo Jumex, bringing a major selection of works from Mexico City’s renowned Colección Jumex to the SLG’s Fire Station galleries. The residency introduced London audiences to one of Latin America’s most significant contemporary art collections through two expansive group exhibitions.

Part 1: 21 May – 31 August 2025

The first chapter showcased installation, sculpture, video and photography by artists including Jenny Holzer, Ana Mendieta, Damián Ortega, Gordon Matta-Clark, and Pia Camil. The exhibition highlighted diverse approaches to material, form and identity, from Ortega’s monumental Clay Mountain to Mendieta’s powerful Silueta work made with fire.

Part 2: 10 September 2025 – 11 January 2026

The second presentation featured 13 artists whose works explore identity, performance and emotional expression across stage, screen and daily life. Highlights included Pedro Reyes’s interactive Museum of Hypothetical Lifetimes, Isa Genzken’s sculptural mannequins, Ana Segovia’s cinematic paintings, and a live performance of James Lee Byars’s The Perfect Kiss. Together, the works examined how people perform and construct their sense of self.

Throughout both exhibitions, the residency reflected Museo Jumex’s commitment to experimentation, education and international dialogue. It offered London visitors a rare opportunity to encounter key works from a collection of over 3,000 contemporary artworks.
