Join artist Tihara Smith for an exciting family workshop exploring textiles, colour and The Caribbean.

ABOUT FAMILY SPACE JUN – AUG 2026

Family Space is a relaxed, creative workshop designed for families to explore and make together. Sessions are artist-led but you can join any time and take part at your own pace. 

  • Creative, fun sessions for children aged 5–12 years with parents/carers  
  • Takes place on the last Saturday of each month, from 11am–1pm  
  • Free, donations welcome 
  • No booking required, drop in anytime. You can register online in advance to save time on the day, further information below. 
  • First come, first served. There may be a short wait during busy periods.  

The space is supported by the SLG’s Communities and Learning team and is designed to be welcoming, inclusive and informal.

From June to August 2026, sessions will be led by Family Space Artist in Residence, Tihara Smith . The residency will end in August with a moment to celebrate the collective work of participating families.

ABOUT TIHARA SMITH

Tihara Smith is a fashion designer and textile artist inspired by Caribbean culture and the Windrush Generation. Known for her raffia embroidery, she celebrates her heritage through vibrant design, workshops, and collaborations. Her work has been acquired by the London Museum and she has worked with institutions like the V&A and Somerset House. Tihara was selected as one of The King’s Foundation’s 35 Under 35, and in 2026 published her first book Raffia Embroidery: Vibrant Designs Inspired by the Caribbean. 

Tihara also creates Caribbean-inspired stationery, accessories, and greeting cards.

Please note that Family Space runs on a first come first serve basis and you may be required to wait a short while for a space to become available if we are at maximum capacity
