The South London Gallery have hosted New Curators in our Fire Station building since September 2023.

New Curators is a paid one-year curatorial training programme based in London for individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

The programme aims to enable a wider range of people to enter the curatorial profession, to contribute to and enrich the art world by increasing access for people from working class  communities.

The training is free and participants are paid a Real Living Wage.

In Summer 2024, the first cohort of New Curators presented Sueño de la Madrugada (A Midnight’s Dream), Firelei Báez’s first solo exhibition in the UK at the SLG. The group curated the exhibition, working closely with the artist and SLG teams and produced the public programme.

While New Curators were still based at the SLG, Camden Art Centre presented their  second exhibition in Summer 2025.

In December 2026, the SLG will host first solo exhibition in the UK by South Korean artist, Kang Seung Lee. This exhibition will be curated by the third cohort of New Curators.

Stay up to date with their work by following New Curators on Instagram.
