It’s surprising how quickly you forget the artists are all students or recent graduates. But at the same time you can’t forget it – the issues confronting them are constantly present, if only in coded fragments.

Matthew Collings, Evening Standard, 5 December

Bloomberg New Contemporaries returns to the South London Gallery for the first time since 1999. Guest selectors Benedict Drew, Katy Moran (New Contemporaries alumni 2006) and Keith Piper (New Contemporaries alumni 1986) have chosen 57 artists for the annual open submission touring exhibition.

Bloomberg New Contemporaries offers an insight into today’s creative practices, showcasing some of the most dynamic work being made by emergent artists. The exhibition spans the SLG’s main site and the Fire Station, and features drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, performances and video. Migration, borders, cultural and gender identity, as well as the use of technology are strong thematic threads running through the works on show.
